The 5.4.1 update is now available to both Server and Online customers on version 5. Checkbox 5 Online customers have been automatically updated to the most recent version. Server customers can access the 5.4.1 update from the Products area of our customer support site. Please note that this update is eligible to all server customers with active support contracts. New Features:

• Mobile Styles – New Mobile Styles allow Checkbox users to create survey style templates specific to mobile devices and tablets. The application now detects which device-type (PC, Tablet or Smartphone) a respondent is taking a survey on and chooses the appropriate default style template automatically. This drastically improves survey-taking for respondents on the move. There are three survey style options:
  • Standard Devices (PCs)
  • Tablets (iPad and Android tablets currently tested and supported with more devices to be added soon)
  • Smartphones (iPhone and Android currently tested and supported with more devices to be added soon)

Set a default survey style for each device from the Survey Dashboard under Configure>>Appearance, or when creating a new survey.

• Available Surveys – The Available Surveys, an option previously available in version 4.7, has been reintroduced in Checkbox 5.4.1 to offer respondents an easier way to access surveys.  This feature allows known or anonymous users to view any active surveys with a public default permission policy. Users will be shown a list of all available surveys in one convenient window. In addition to Available Surveys, we have created a new Available Reports page that will also be available to known or anonymous users who wish to view all reports with a public default permission policy.

To share these surveys/reports with users, simply add /availablesurveys.aspx or /availablereports.aspx at the end of your account’s custom URL.

• Password Restrictions – Enhanced Password Restrictions allow System Administrators to set:
  • Set minimum log-in password lengths
  • Set minimum non-alphanumeric characters on log-in passwords
  • Enforce these password restrictions globally (when global option is not selected, restrictions apply to public registration only).
•

• Lock-out Options – New Lock-out Options offer System Administrators the ability to set a maximum number of consecutive failed login attempts.

Lock-Out Options can be found under Settings>>System Settings>>Users and SecurityIn addition to setting a maximum number of failed login attempts, System Administrators now have the ability to manually lock/unlock users from login: 


Manual Lock-Out can be applied in the User Manager within an individual user profile.

• HTML Multi-Line Text Editor – The new HTML Multi-Line Text Editor is an optional feature that improves response quality by offering respondents the ability to add basic HTML formatting to their multi-line responses. In addition, survey creators can now add basic HTML formatting to the Multi-Line default text.
  

• Global Time Zone – With Checkbox 5.4.1, users can now apply a Global Time Zone to their application to reflect a preferred regional time. Previously, the time application time zone was determined by the location of the server hosting the Checkbox account.

Time zone settings can be found under Settings>>System Settings>>System Preferences>>Global Settings

System Administrators will now see the following message upon login if the Global Time Zone has not been set for their account yet:

Redesigned survey dashboard makes it easier to view and change your survey settings.

New Slider Question Item lets respondents easily pick a value from a large number range, or choose from a list of values.

All text associated with a survey can now be customized on a per-survey basis. This includes activation messages, permissions messages, login prompts, and any other text that will be shown to a respondent.

We have set the End of Life date for Checkbox Survey version 4.6 (and all earlier versions) for December 31, 2011. This means that, as of this date:

• We will not be developing features or bug fixes for version 4.6 (or earlier versions)
• We will not be able to troubleshoot bugs for this version
• You will be able to patch to version 4.7 if you have an active support account
• You will be able to upgrade from version 4.7 to version 5 if you have an active support account
• You may continue to contact support regarding product functionality questions or other questions not specifically related to bugs that may be present in version 4.6 or earlier versions, if you have an active support contract

If you would like to patch to version 4.7 or upgrade to our newly redesigned version 5, you may do so at any time if you have an active customer support contract. If your support contract has lapsed, we would be happy to offer you the following deals between now and November 30, 2011:

All customers who plan on upgrading to Checkbox 5.3 should first review our New Features Guide, our updated server requirements and the version 5.3 upgrade instructions, which are bundled with the upgrade files on the customer support site. We also highly recommend testing the upgrade on a test server before upgrading any production environment(s).

Checkbox Online (hosted) customers who are currently on version 4.7 will have access to the version 5.3 upgrade shortly. More details on the Checkbox Online upgrade will be forthcoming by email and news updates.
