skip pattern / null vs zero

Does anyone know whether Checkbox distinguishes an UNANSWERED question from an answer of zero? For example, if a question is skipped based on a previous answer it seems to code it the same as if the the question was not skipped but the user didn't answer it.

To further explain... it seems that this is only a problem with checkboxes. Other questions that were not presented to the user just appear blank when the data is exported. But the checkboxes show as zeroes making it a bit difficult to determine wheter the user saw the question but didn't answer it or whether the user never saw the question based on the skip logic.
