Changing items in a survey containing responses
Hey,
Using Checkbox v4.4.1.14 here... my questions concerns a survey created by one of my in-house clients which expired today; she wants to be able to edit several questions in the survey even though it's already finished its run and collected about 11 responses. For some reason, though (and I verified this), when she tries to edit questions, the Submit button at the bottom of the Edit Item screen is invariably disabled. What's going on? Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Care needs to be taken when editing a survey once response has been collected as deleting an item will also delete any associated responses.
In an effort to prevent the accidental deletion of data Checkbox added a new setting, Allow Editing of Active Surveys, which prevents the editing of a survey once responses have been collected. If this setting is not enabled you will see the behavior you describe. The "Allow Editing of Active Surveys" setting can be found by navigating to Settings -> Preferences.
Once "Allow Editing of Active Surveys" has been enabled there is an additional survey level setting which needs to be enabled as well. Open the survey you would like to edit in the Survey Manager and navigate to the Properties tab. The "Allow editing of this survey while it is active and collecting responses" setting will need to be enabled.

ahhh, thanks. I knew there was something missing. it seems a little counter-intuitive to have to flick two switches to be able to do something, but at least it's possible, and now I know what to say when people ask me what's going on.

It can be a little counter intuitive, but it's far easier for our support people to explain how to enable the setting than it is to explain that someone's survey responses are gone.

The option located in settings is a system wide setting which controls whether or not active surveys can be edited and can only be enabled by System Administrators.
The survey specific setting setting controls whether or not individuals surveys can be edited after responses have been collected. Users with Survey Administrator roles and permission to edit a given survey can enable/disable this setting.
