Changing language name in multi-lingual surveys
I frequently create multi-lingual surveys - English and French Canadian. Users can select which lanugague from the survey opening page, but the language options that appear in the drop down are "English" and "fr-ca".
How can I change "fr-ca" to read "Francais"?
Thanks,
SRM

To change the displayed names of languages, login to Checkbox as an administrator user and take the following steps:
1) Go to Settings->Languages, Validation Messages, and Misc. Text
2) Click on the Language Names tab
3) Use the Drop Down List to change the localization language, then enter the language names in the text-entry fields and click the "Update" button.
It is important to note that the list of languages displayed to the user is localized for that language. i.e. the French localization for fr-CA will be used, the English localization for en-US, etc.

Thank you, however, I did apply those settings months ago. The big problem is when I create a multilingual survey with a prompt to select the language at the beginning my users see either "English" or "fr-CA". When I followed the instructions you mentioned above I cannot enter a language name for "fr-CA" because it is not an option (only fr-FR appears).
My French users are starting to get annoyed that they see "fr-CA" while the English users see "English" and I want to change this. How can I change the language names listed on the Settings->Languages, Validation Messages, and Misc. Text page to display "fr-CA" so I can enter the language name "Francais" for my French users.
Thank you for your quick response,
SRM

There is an XML file that you can export from Checkbox that will allow you to change most of the text within the application. Run through the following steps:
1. Log into Checkbox as a Systems Administrator
2. Select the Settings Manager Icon
3. Select Export Text from under the Application Text subgroup
4. Click on the first checkbox 'All Text Entries' to select all of the text options available within Checkbox
5. Select the Export Text link
6. Open this file within Excel and edit as an XML Table
7. Search for /languageText/
8. Each language will have a '/languageText/' row.
For English it will be '/languageText/en-US'.
For Danish it will be '/languageText/da-EU'.
Edit each value currently stored in the en-US column to change the drop down value.
After making all of your requested translations you will need to import your edited file into Checkbox and then recycle your application pool.
