Activatio/Deactivation Dates
Exactly how are the dates supposed to work for activation? Specifically, if I set activation dates why doesn't the survey show as inactive after the end date? And why doesn't it automatically activate on the start date? Any clarification about how this is supposed to work would be helpful. Thanks.

The Activate/Deactivate toggle controls whether or not the survey is available to take. If no date is set there is no restriction on the time frame when a survey can be taken. If a survey is marked as inactive it is not available to take, regardless of the date filter.
The start date and end date restrict the period of time that an active survey is available to take.
The relationship between these two options is somewhat confusing and it is something we are looking to improving in future releases of the product.Last edited by pwiesner; 09-04-2009 at 09:27 AM.

What I have found is the activation / deactivation dates begin at midnight (morning of). So if I needed a survey available all day Oct 1 and to cease on Oct 31, I would specify Activation = Oct 1 and Deactivation = Nov 1 (not Oct 31, as then it would deactivate at 1200midnight the morning of Oct 31, when I really need it to be available all day on the 31st)

We are currently working on Checkbox 5. The focus of this release is improving the product's UI and work flow. Nothing is locked in stone yet, but we are looking into the possibility of specifying both the date and time when assigning start and stop values.

thanks
Thanks for the responses. Although I'm not concerned with what time things happen. Mainly what I don't understand is why, if a survey is set to deactivate on a certain day, in the list of all surveys it will still show a green check mark indicating that it is still active after the date specified. If I try to send an invitation for that survey it will warn me that the survey is inactive - as it should. But the green check mark in the "Active" column doesn't seem to be checking the date.

My comment about hours was directed toward srm_dt. The addition of hours would hopefully clear up the ambiguity over exactly when a survey is available.
af64 Thank you for the clarification. The green check reflects the value of the Active/Inactive setting and, as you have observed, does not take the date filters into account. I believe this was done for performance reasons.
I have made a note to discuss this behavior in our next developer meeting.Last edited by pwiesner; 09-10-2009 at 04:38 PM.

thanks again
Thanks again for clarifying. That answer makes perfect sense to me. But some of my users don't see it that way.

How does checkbox handle timezones using this? Is is based on the server or the client system timezone?

srm_dt is correct. The server's time zone is used.
