    Angry Patching 4.4 to 4.6

Need assitant "patching" (upgrading) checkbox from 4.4 to version 4.6.
The instructions provided in the patch document are very long and assume the user has knowledge of database, Windows permissions, IIS, .NET configuration, XML, etc. This is a very delicate process that should NOT be left in the hands of end-users.

I think there should be a patch/upgrade program that handles all this process via a setup program or a wizard style program. Leaving this to the end-user just makes this critical process vulnerable to too human error.

Please contact us to setup a WebEx session.

If you have not done so already I would suggest contacting the support team to resolve your issue. You can either open an online support ticket (Checkbox - Login To Customer Area) or contact them by phone at +1 617-715-9600.

To address the concerns that you raised in your post. You are correct, currently the patch process is not designed to be run by end users. Rather it is intended to be run by the system administrator of the web server. We are always looking to improve the installation/patch process. I have opened a developer tracker item which contains your suggestions.

Default Upgrade from 4.4 to 4.6 - needs help!

This is an state university. Our current v4.4 system is run by business graduate students.Currently we do not have anyone with enough system knowledge to do this upgrade. We have gone through the patch instructions and there are some steps that are over our expertise. Is there a more detailed set of instructions to upgrade v4.4 to v4.6? We need a step by step. We use the MS SQL Server Express DB. Our existing install was done by Prezza Tech Support and we paid $$$ for this last year. We do not have spare funds this year to do so. Any help will be appreciated.

PatchInstructions.pdf is the only document on this subject. We have tried to make it as detailed as possible and have organized it in a step by step fashion. If you need further assistance on a specif step please contact the support team; before suggesting this I confirmed that you have a valid support contract. The support team will want to know the specific step that is causing you problem.

In addition to the server product, we also offer a hosted installation for customers that do not want to manage their own servers. If this is something you would like to know more about I can have your sales associate contact you.

    Default 4.4 -> 4.6 upgrade questions

    Upgrading from 4.4 to 4.6

Here are the specific questions using the Patch document steps:

    a) Step 4: we do not have the images/upload folder. What do we do?

    b) Step 8: There is nothing inside the <pages /> in our web.config file. Is this OK? Should we just copy all the text inside this tag?

    c) Step 9: we do not have <sitemap /> inside our web.config file. Should we added? Where do we insert this tag in the web.config file?

    d) Step 10: our custom error section is commented out. Is this ok?

    e) Setp 11: we have many entries inside the <httpHandles /> tag. Should we delete all the entries and replace them with the ones indicated in this document or should we add the new ones?

    f) Step 13: we do not have the ASPNET and the ISUR_MachineName in the list of users in the security tab in the bin or config folders. The security for both is: Admins FC, Creator Owner special, Network service RW, System FC and MachineName\Users RO + special. Should we add ASPNET and IUSR_MachineName them to these to folders?

I would appreciate your help with this matter.

A support member informed me that you have opened a support ticket earlier today. I will let the support team answer your questions because I think having more than one dialog will confuse the situation.
