Filtering information from Matrix Questions

I have attempted to filter results from matrix questions. When I view my filters, the information is not automatically generated. I manually entered filters, but when I run the Reports, I receive the following message: "An error occurred while rendering the report. Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I double checked my response definitions to ensure they were correct (i.e. "If ... is equal to 'Yes'"). Is it possible to filter matrix information?
