Due for release in early April 2009, Checkbox version 4.6 introduces exciting new features and performance enhancements, building on Checkbox’s core feature set, user interface, and web services.
Here is a sneak peak at a few of the new features that you can expect from Checkbox 4.6:
- Folders
Now available in the Invitation and Report Managers, the survey folder hierarchy will improve performance and simplify searching for surveys and reports.
- Deactivate Items
Survey editors will now be able to deactivate survey items to prevent them from being shown to respondents. Existing answers will still appear in reports and data exports, and those items may be re-activated at any time.
- Export Options
Several new export options have been introduced to provide greater flexiblility for analyzing survey results, including export to native SPSS (.sav) format.
In addition to adding many new features, Checkbox v4.6 has further enhanced its performance and functionality by advancing survey caching, data exporting, and report editing.

Scored Survey: Scored surveys are a useful tool for online exams and tests and provide a powerful method for evaluating the results of a survey using a points system. In this brief video we walk through the creation of a scored survey within Checkbox.
Email Lists & Invitations: With Checkbox’s advanced invitation wizard, you can easily send customized email messages to potential respondents, track response rates, and send reminders. In this brief video we demonstrate the creation of an email list and issuing a customized email invitation.

IMPORTANT: These tools are available to the following customers: 1) Checkbox Survey Server customers with a valid Developer Kit subscription (via the Customer Area) and 2) Checkbox Online customers with a Workgroup or Enterprise subscription. OVERVIEW
Prezza Technologies offers both an API and Web Services that can be used with Checkbox® Survey. Both of these tools allow for integration with existing applications and third party products. Below, you’ll find a comparison of the API and Web Services:
- API – With the Checkbox® APIs, a Microsoft .NET developer has access to every part of the system. However, using the API essentially requires that any application using the Checkbox® APIs have a valid set of Checkbox configuration files as well as references to nearly all of the Checkbox assemblies. This requirement makes for a steeper learning curve and makes it harder for a developer to jump right in and get started.
- Web Services – The Checkbox® Web Services provide well-defined and documented proxy classes for commonly used areas of the application. These require only an HTTP access to Checkbox Survey and can be used with any platform that has support for web services / HTTP calls.
Here’s a list of all of the Web Services that are available with Checkbox Survey version 4.5.3 and higher:
- User Management
List users and user groups in the Checkbox database.
Create, update, and delete users and user profiles.
Create, update, and delete user groups.
Manage access lists and default policies to govern access to user groups.
- Survey Management
List surveys and folders.
Create, update, and delete folders.
Copy, delete, and move surveys.
Edit survey properties including permissions and activation settings.
Get configuration data for items contained in surveys.
Manage access lists and default policies to govern access to surveys and folders.
- Invitation Management
List invitations for surveys.
List recipients for invitations and get recipient details (sent, responded, opted-out, etc.)
Create, update, delete and send invitations.
Manage invitation recipient lists.
Create, update, delete email lists.
Manage access lists and default policies to govern access to email lists.
- Reporting
List reports for surveys.
List responses and response answers for surveys.
Get configuration data for reports, report filters, and items contained in reports.
Access raw data and calculated results for individual report items.
Export survey response data to CSV or Microsoft Excel compatible XML.

Prezza Technologies will no longer provide support for Ultimate Survey Enterprise effective February 1, 2009.
Any customer that is still using Ultimate Survey Enterprise should move to Checkbox Survey as quickly as possible. An upgrade is available. Please contact Prezza Support or your Sales Representative for more information.
After the End of Support, no additional technical support assistance will be made available for Ultimate Survey Enterprise. This includes engineering and developer support, bug fixes or integration of any bug fixes into previous updates, licensing support, or support of customizations that were built on Ultimate Survey Enterprise.
