Research and data collection, aided significantly by online survey software, continued to be a growing market in 2015. As we enter 2016, it’s time to take a look at the trends we expect to see affect online surveys in the coming year.

1. Mobile as a mainstay

Mobile use and adoption is no longer an emerging trend – it’s clearly here to stay. Mobile versus desktop internet browsing reached a tipping point in 2014; online survey access via mobile devices has also continued to climb, with some sources projecting that 35%-40% of online surveys will be taken on a mobile device in 2016. On the flip side, mobile survey completion rates tend to be significantly lower than desktop rates, which can be largely attributed to internet connectivity issues and/or poor survey design. Consequently, responsive survey design has gone from a “nice to have” feature to an absolutely necessary one in a very short period of time. With many organizations designing online surveys specifically for mobile users, online survey tool providers will need to continue to up their mobile game in 2016 to ensure a seamless experience for mobile phone and tablet users. This means not only offering responsive surveys that easily adapt to any device or browser, but also enhancing performance for mobile network users.

2. Micro-surveys

Say hello to the increased use of micro-surveys, designed with one to three survey questions. These little survey gems capture small “bursts” of information, and they are becoming more prevalent, especially with mobile users and Millennials, who embrace short-and-sweet online interactions.  Micro-surveys can be delivered via email, embedded within a website or sent via a mobile text message. They are becoming the go-to trend for capturing real-time insight based on behavior and can be triggered by events like purchases, contact requests, phone calls and more.

3. Geo-triggered surveys

In 2016, we expect to see an increased focus on capturing in-the-moment data using real-time, on-location surveys. This trend uses the geolocation technology built into smartphones and tablets to trigger surveys based on geographic location or movements. Savvy credit card vendors and retailers are already using mobile geolocation to serve up coupons and offers based on a consumer’s location. Researchers are also increasingly tapping into this source of real-time insight, offering surveys to consumers when they enter, leave or spend time at a specific location.

4. Survey automation

Technology automation continues to push its way into the survey world. We expect to see a stronger focus on integrating survey tools with other systems for the purpose of process automation. Online survey software tools can be integrated with CRMs, databases, and other third-party systems via an API or web services. With contact information stored in these applications, rules can be applied to trigger surveys based on specific actions, dates or other variables.

5. Text and qualitative analysis

Getting to the root of respondent behavior through data analysis of text-based responses will be a major initiative for surveyors in 2016. Open-ended questions are a rich source of meaningful data that otherwise might be lost with traditional survey techniques. New data analysis tools make it possible to drill deeper into text-based responses to remove subjectivity and reveal actionable insights that were previously untapped.

6. Niche reporting via interactive dashboards

More businesses are integrating off-the-shelf survey tools into customized reporting tools and dashboards for data analysis that’s more focused on their niche requirements. By using survey software as a data collection engine and integrating it into more comprehensive dashboards for examination, researchers can run deeper analyses, including predictive analytics, to gather more insights on data points. This includes connecting survey tools to Google analytics to track and monitor user behavior and referral data.

7. Social and community data integration

Data is proliferating in more places, especially on social sites. We expect to see organizations increasingly aggregating data from social sites and online communities with more traditionally-obtained research data from online and in-person surveys. This will allow for the cross-tabulation of information for quantitative analysis that identifies trends between the various data points.  Connecting social data points with traditional survey data can deliver deeper insights than can survey data alone.

  • Several security issues have been resolved.

Important Note about Q4 Web Service Changes :

Due to security concerns and core application changes such as performance optimizations and the addition of new features, several web service methods will be changed in our upcoming 2015 Q4 release.

If you are utilizing the following methods you will need to update your code when 2015 Q4 is released:

  •  ExportResponsesTabular in the response data service
  • ListEmailPanelsByPeriod method in the invitation management service

The changes are as follows :

  • The ExportResponsesTabular method will be receiving both a signature update as well as an update to data returned in the next release. This update is in response to the new “Score by Page” feature added in the Q3 release. A new temporary method has been added in the 2015 Q3 release to help you prepare for the Q4 update. This method is named : ExportResponsesTabularScored.
  •  This new method will be removed when 2015 Q4 is released, but will return the exact data, and have the same input variables that ExportResponseTabular will have after the Q4 release. We have added this method so that you can utilize it to prepare your client side code to take in the new fields that are being returned due to the scoring feature.
  • ListEmailPanelsByPeriod will receive a signature update only. The method signature will be adjusted to remove the “Permission” input variable which has not been used by the method for some time.

Please note that if you do not adjust your client side code once Q4 has been released your code will not function properly.

If you have any questions or concerns please submit a support ticket and we will do our best to provide the necessary information to prepare for these updates. If you are not utilizing these methods, your code and your usage of the application should not be affected.

The post 5 Ways Educators Are Scoring BIG With Survey Software appeared first on Checkbox Survey.

]]>
Academic SurveyFrom grade school to grad school, today’s savvy educators are using survey software like Checkbox Survey to measure and monitor student performance and school-based trends – and it’s easy to see why. The automated functionality embedded in survey tools makes it easy for educators to capture information online, saving them time while helping them collect more accurate data about their school, curriculum and student performance.

So what are the five key ways educators are using survey software?

1. Measure performance

Scored surveys can be a big time-saver when it comes to grading tests, quizzes and assignments. With them, educators can assign points to survey questions and add them up to get a total score – and real-time measurement of a student’s performance. Survey software from Checkbox also gives educators the choice of keeping scores private or forwarding them to students through email or message alerts. Detailed reports can also be generated to analyze an individual student’s performance or to dig deeper into the survey results to see how classes or groups performed as a whole.

2. Monitor satisfaction

Online satisfaction surveys provide a fast and convenient way for educators to gather student, parent and community feedback about their curriculum and student life. By embedding surveys into school websites or posting them on social media channels, students and educators can capture public opinion and get satisfaction ratings on a wide range of topics. Students can rate classes, parents can rate school performance and teachers can provide feedback to administrators. It’s a great way to identify opportunities for schoolwide improvements so educators can be more responsive to and engaged with their communities.

3. Streamline research

Use online surveys to simplify academic research for class projects, thesis papers or dissertations. Open-ended questions can be used to identify new trends while closed-ended questions can be used to gain measured responses on targeted information. With Checkbox Survey, educators can give students access to online surveys to run opinion polls and send out ratings scales, to name a few uses. CAPTCHA can be embedded into surveys to validate respondents. For more sensitive research at collegiate levels, survey software can be installed on secure servers and integrated into existing infrastructures along with permissions and user controls to secure access to survey data.

4. Simplify administration

Replace paper-based data collection and forms with online information capture via web forms posted on school websites and teacher pages. With them, important student information can be captured and stored, eliminating the need for duplicate data entry and enabling faster responses to inquiries. Use embedded forms to collect contact information, request program updates, or sign up for school notices and events.

5. Encourage participation

Choose a survey tool that supports multilingual surveys so you can remove language barriers to survey participation and ensure the best possible responses by your entire community. Checkbox Survey supports multiple language survey questions to provide a uniform experience for all students regardless of their preferred or spoken language.

Checkbox Survey offers hosted or installed versions of survey software that blend secure integration and ease of use via standard browsers. Check out our special academic pricing for schools or try it free for 30 days.
